PaintTool SAI
I just started my last semester of school and so far I think is going to be nice semester with tons of free time… I’m just taking Packaging and Applied Drawing, I decided no to transfer the drawing class and take it again as I just thought it maybe useful to get back in to drawing as I rarely draw those days and I’ve always wanted to start an sketchbook but I just never do, so now I’ll be forced to do so… I think my drawing skills are not as great as some people think because the true I’m such a cheater… I always use whatever tools to get the right proportions and to cut time. So most of the time I’m always sort of tracing with a projector, lightbox, drawing on top of the images on the computer, and  using a vinyl cutter with a pencil so instead of cutting, it will draw the vectors I traced on the computer…   its not that I can’t draw at all but I’m just becoming so lazy and reliant having those tools… anyway,  I still think I  can draw about the same thing if I use just my pencil and eyes and so I’m starting to fill my sketchbook  and trying at the same time the program SAI that I’m starting to like it a lot. It works great with my old Wacom Tablet…  I never heard of it before until I bumped with Pixiv, a Japanese art community full of amazing illustrations, where it seems like everybody in  there use this program…
so here is a silly quicky non-traced drawing scanned from my sketchbook and colored manly with SAI…

I love this tree scene from the thai movie The Letter....

Chicago Film Festival

I just thought  posting some school stuff I did earlier last month for my photo communication class… is not that great but I kinda liked how it turned out….  it is supposed to be a poster, a postcard  and a mini ad for the Chicago International  Film Festival which was last month. I couldn’t go see a lot of movies but anyway there were not many movies that called my attention this year. Anyway, I got to see some nice ones at the fest. My fav was totally Chronicle of my Mother. I was undecided if I should go see it because I couldn’t find reviews and not even trailers of the movie as it has not even been showed in Japan yet, I think… it seems like it is been playing around at some other film festivals as I have found out it was gotten some awards, so it must be really good… it totally reminds me to Ozu’s movies and I think that was the main reason I went to see it, lol as the synopsis had that the film was evocative of classic Ozu….so blah blah…
So talking about the poster and stuff we just had about 2-3  weeks to finish it.   with so many classes demanding a lot of work, I didn’t spend that much time on this project… it was ok to use pictures i have taken before so I just picked the ones that I thought it may fit. I save lot of time in going shooting, lol, and avoiding getting in trouble with the police for taking pics at train stations… :)

Hwang Mi Hee Shirt Video

I have been playing lately with After Effects and so far I think its awesome. I took some time-lapse photos of a shirt I did recently and made a video of it. I think it turned out nice even thought I didn’t spent that much time on it.  The only thing that I don’t like of after effects is that I don’t have that much control to editing the audio and deleting frames like in Vegas or maybe it is possible and I just need to find out how.  for now I used other programs to do that… but I’m loving how easily animations can be done… looking at the work of Akino Kondoh and other animators it gives me thoughts of  starting a big project next year. i will be taking just class i have left to graduate next semester so i think i’ll have plenty of time to on my portfolio and stuff. i wonder if I’ll had the patience to draw thousands of drawings just to make a few seconds / minutes video… sounds crazy so we’ll see…

here is one of many animations that is making me having those sort of thoughts:

Mm about the shirt, she is the Korean race queen Hwang Mi Hee. I like how the shirt turned out but I just kinda ruined it a couple of days ago by trying to do put a screen print layer on it…. which it looked pretty bad because I used my 300 screen mesh instead of a lower one so it needs a hell lot of pressure for the ink to go through the fine mesh and the paint I used was not recommended for dark colored either so it didn’t turnout that well…   I‘ve trying to get some discharge inks which I have heard are better for dark colors as it removes the paint of the fabric and they print well with  some additives on a high screen mesh but i have been so lazy to go get them besides they are kinda pricey…

mmm… and if you’re wondering about the awesome song thats Ferry Corsten – Made of Love

just moments before i ruined it…
