japanese festival poster screenprint

Just posting some stuff I did at school. This semester went really fast that I still can’t believe it has ended… I really enjoyed the classes even the boring one ( Promotional graphics )… the whole was just mere critic so it was so boring for me and even thought I put a lot of effort on the projects i did and always presenting my ideas, roughs and finals every class all I got was a C well a C+ with the silly  Columbia grading. I don’t want to brag about it but I got 3 A and 1 B so I feel bad for that C that I don’t think I deserved.  Oh well… I’m going to bother in posting work from that class…

In the other hand I think I i had a class with one of the best teachers I had so far in Columbia. I really enjoyed his class even though it was demanding he really knows what he is doing and teaches with lots of enthusiasm that makes the class interesting.  he seems to prepare so well for the class that it doesn’t waste any second, i could go on and on.. so he is not like most of the other teachers that the only thing they do is just have the entire class for classmates critic and they barely say something. I think this is one of the few classes in Columbia that I actually feel like  I learned something, lol…

the stuff i did it is not that awesome but I’m happy with it

Another of my fav class again was printmaking so far i think I’m even impressed  with the stuff I did in just 2 months. as last year too I started working in this class after midterm. This time I just didn’t have time and was so confused in what I should focus on… I guess I could say I felt motivated or inspired to do something after the earthquake/tsunami in Japan and decided to make some screenprints based on pictures I have taken there. I really put a lot of my time in this project and neglected a lot of things like my work and photography etc and did 6 prints some with many layers and  editions of 70 to 40.  I just needed 10 of each print but as a nice guy from xpedx paper store  gave a huge discount of huge sheets of paper that worked great as posters, I did those crazy editions…  I’ll keep working on stuff like this summer at school so I hope to make some better work now that I have plenty of time…

poster hope for japan

hope for japan. :)

poster japanese girl stare

poster japan you will never walk alone

i ended up not happy with this one after they were done... it it just mainly the text and think it is just too much stuff and silly text

japan you will never walk alone

so i love this one that i did on a presentation board and unfortunatelly i only did this one...

this one is my fav so far even though i still have a couple of layer to go from the pic i put above.

this is reason why it has been taking me too long as i'm doing 70! of those and as you can see they are so huge

I really like the portfolio book I did for my publication design class. I did the Japanese stab binding myself unfortunately  I no longer have it with me as I gave it to my teacher and I forgot to take pictures of it… but here are some digital spreads of it. I did the design related to  the Tokyo metro system I still have mixed feelings in using the lines in the photos but they kinda look nice….

I actually overworked myself and did a separate book with only pictures from Japan in some HQ paper  and got rid of those lines but still not quite happy, I guess it is something in between … gotta love the Japanese stab binding… 🙂

I read a few books during this semester ( I almost never read books so I can’t even believe that myself)  one of those was Norwegian wood I’m glad that I did that before i watched the movie a couple of weeks ago even though it is not that bad , the book is one of the best I have ever read and sometimes regret not  habit of reading book but I’m working on it… i just started reading the WindUp Bird Chronicle from the same author…  well i started 2 years ago but i give up at page 30 something.  I’m starting again and so far looks pretty good…

so because I was so impressed by the book I did a poster related to the movie for my Typography class…

for this class we had to choose a press theme and do the projects related to the chosen theme so as you guess my theme was Japanese culture.  I think that’s really nice to chose your own subject as at least you can work in something  you really like and not in some boring stuff you’re not interested on…

I did a lot of stuff in this class. i like this invitation for a fake fundraising for Japan…

this was the first time that i tried to do origami. i thought it was so complicated but its not ...
